A huge discussion coupled with heated debates and arguments are going on in the public sphere and arena of the international politics about the viability of Putin’s rule in Russia. Western media including the so called liberal media of Russia is trying to prove anyway that presidency of Putin is the beginning of the end game for him citing the protest rallies, suddenly discovered discontent among Russian population with a sizeable(!) number of youth and middle class. Many of them are extracting important examples from the yellow pages of Russian history, While Putin loyalists are trying to project Vladimir as one and only leader of Russia. Considering all these events and views ,we have to realize the ground level sense of Russian population and the pros and cons of Russian politics including external factors.
It is evident that Putin has dragged Russia to the right path from the chaotic Yeltsin era. Many anti-putin outlets and intellectual argues point out to the high oil price during his tenure-true-but one has to realize the real situation of Russia at that time.oligarchs, mafias and extremist elements were ruling Russian life. So there was every chance of the looting of oil revenues instead of being used for public goods through proper distribution channel. Putin did the uphill task may be in iron hands, but that was necessary for the survival and integrity of Russia. Leaders are born due to the call of time and in many cases time selects the real leader to shape a nation’s fate and Putin successfully restored almost everything that was lost during the first ten years of post-soviet period.
Russia is also facing a demographic crisis though situation is improving under able leadership of Vladimir Putin.A great state spending to avoid the catastrophe is necessary. Neo-liberals,liberals have no specific policy to fight this problem, but Putin has. some extent the communists also have some ideas and they have become the prime opposition party at state Duma.
There was a great need to suppress Chechen militancy with strong hand to protect the territorial integrity of Russia where there was a great chance of second disintegration of Russia(that was wanted by usa, nato and other players of the region).usa followed the same path to eradicate militancy by force during afghan war against the Taliban. Many people and organization tell about so called human rights violation, but they are living in fool’s world. they need to ask themselves that what would be the govt’s role of their respective countries where possibility of disintegration and terrorism exist. in the history, there is not a single war where the so called human rights were duly protected, in reality it is impossible. people tends to compromise with it due to the greater benefit. the same thing can be asked about human rights violation during nato bombing in former Yugoslavia, america’s afghan war,Iraq invasion, Vietnam war, African civil wars. The country which used nuclear bomb against innocent civilians at Hiroshima-Nagasaki and it’s nato allies who have the blood stein of innocent civilians killed by them must not advise others on human rights violations. The Chechen terrorists are still trying to gain momentum and certainly they are gaining from foreign lands for their activities to destabilize north-Caucasus and Russia as a whole.
Russia is also facing a great information war specially by the English speaking media for no sense. Most of the statements, columns and editorials are biased-so Russia needs a strong leader who will be able to counter it efficiently. Journalists and so called civil right activists are harassed and even killed in so called civilized and democratic countries across the globe, so accusing Russia under Putin is senseless.
Russian military needs a matured modernization which can only be done under Vladimir Putin as he is realistic, pragmatic and not the emotional fool who will live in the dream thinking that west and usa including nato are his friends and the friends of Russian people. Russia has a real threat form nato and it’s so called missile shield. Russia is a large country and it has to get substantial military spending to enhance infrastructure and ultra-modern weapons including defense industry overhauling to terminate security threats and protect it’s boundary and natural resources.
Russia has got a huge stock of natural resources including oil and natural gas. Foreign parties including some Russian looters and oligarchs(many of them are supported by west for wrong reason) are trying to do everything to suck the blood of Russian in every way. They are financing ngos and different chaotic group of Russian society in the name of promoting democracy. Meddling in other’s internal affair through intelligence service supported groups are a good tools of many country to destabilize others. The groups with vested interests think of color revolution in Russia. This kind of people can only be banished by Vladimir putin. Russian natural resources must be controlled centrally so that no one can take advantage to exploit Russia in diplomatic front.
According to independent polling organizations including Levada centre, Putin has real support of 53 to 63 percent support of the Russian people. So election fraud against him does not hold water. There may be some violations but considering the age of Russian democracy, it is negligible.
Putin gave Russia the needful stability which helped/will help Russia to attain the next higher position-the modernization of Russian economy. If someone including the some section of so called liberal Russian society wants to dethrone him, must remember that there is no alternative of Putin till date, their own credibility at a stake as no intelligent and patriotic person accepts them as harbinger of democracy instead of foreign agents who want to create a disintegrated and weak Russia which will be dancing in the tune of west and usa sacrificing it’s own interest.
Russia was/is a great power. After Joseph Stalin, Russia did not have strong leader. Here we have got Putin who is democratically elected president. He is not a spiritual heir of Stalin but a very popular leader elected by popular vote. Many European leaders have not such kind of ratings in their homelands. He has got a new role to play and he is moving towards right direction by increasing social spending, huge military spending, overseeing WTO accession, taking extensive measures against corruption. He knows that Russia needs reform but not in that path which will weaken Russia in all fronts as everyone of us has the knowledge of glasnost and perestroika which caused severe damage to Russia and ex-soviet states. He can stand against the injustice and crimes committed by usa and nato ,under his leadership shared with Medvedev stabilization fund has been created and Russia did not suffer much as it’s European counter parts during recession. Putin has shown every sign of great leader rather than being a traitor and a shark like Gorbachev and other liberals. In diplomatic front he clearly and loudly speaks to the world about Russia’s concern and interests without being afraid of anything. He has got the whole country together and extending friendship with china,ex-soviet central Asian countries and other BRICS nations. He has helped Americans and nato by giving transit permission to Afghanistan by allowing military and transport base to fight against terrorism which is a global threat. Through united nation, under his leadership Russia is showing democratic and pragmatic commitments. So in overall assessment he is a successful president and a great leader of modern Russia. If Russia and it’s people want to see prosperity, respect and influence in modern world-they badly need Vladimir Putin than anyone else, there is no alternative at all with high credibility.
